Water for all

Millions of people across the globe live without safe water. Yet here in New Zealand, clean water is so plentiful and easily available that we simply take it for granted. In low-income and less-industrialised countries all over the world, diseases caused by unsafe water and inadequate sanitation is one of the most serious threats to human life.

The average person in the developing world uses 10 litres of water every day for their drinking, washing and cooking. This is the same amount used in the average flush of a New Zealand toilet. New Zealanders tend to use between 160-400 litres per day.

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has established water as a human right, which Oxfam NZ strongly supports.

OXFAM NZ is asking you to put your knowledge of these issues to the test to help raise awareness.

Take our quiz and test what you really know about the CLEAN WATER CRISIS across the globe and its effect on vulnerable communities.

About OXFAM New Zealand

Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the vision of a world without poverty. Together, we endeavor to create a world where people everywhere are valued and treated equally, where people are empowered to influence the decisions that affect their lives, and where people can thrive on a planet that has the natural resources to sustain them.

We believe that with the necessary action and political will, this world is possible.

Oxfam saves lives and helps to rebuild livelihoods when disaster strikes. This means providing access to safe water, helping families to earn a dignified living, grow enough food and send their children to school. We stand up for the rights of women everywhere and speak out against injustices that keep people poor. We fight poverty now – and beat it for good.

We believe in the power of people to change the world. That’s why we motivate and support members of the New Zealand public to take action towards a fairer, safer, more sustainable world. Managing more people and more funds means we can support local partners across the world to provide real benefits to people in poverty.
